How To Treat Acne: 4 Things To Always Do and 3 To Avoid

How have you seen sun damage manifest in your clients’ skin?

One of the biggest mistakes that people make is not wearing sunscreen and being out in the sun. The sun is so harmful for your skin, beyond the obvious early aging that can occur. Skin cancer is the most common cancer and it’s preventable by making sure you are properly protecting your skin. Sun damage takes decades to come to the surface. It shows up in the form of pigmentation, and it also breaks down the collagen in your skin. This leads to a loss of firmness in the skin, sagging, and wrinkles.

When did you become aware of sun protection as a vital part of skin health?

My mother taught me the importance of sunscreen from a young age. I was also able to see the effects of sun damage firsthand while working for a dermatologist.

What steps are part of your beauty routine?

AM:

I cleanse with Daily Cleansing Serum and use my Deesse Mask for 20 minutes for glowing skin. After that, I will apply a Vitamin C serum for antioxidant protection, eye cream, and an oil free sunscreen. I love Supergoop’s Superscreen. It’s lightly hydrating yet oil free so it won’t cause congestion. I wear sunscreen every single day, no matter what!

PM:

At night, I cleanse with Daily Cleansing Serum again. After gently drying my skin, I apply Texture Reform, which is my gentle retinyl palmitate serum. For an added boost of moisture, I like to use a hyaluronic acid serum. Next up is eye cream. My favorite is the iS Clinical Youth Eye Complex, it has peptides and hyaluronic acid to plump up and brighten. I finish my routine with Daily Oil-Free Moisturizer, which provides lightweight hydration with natural extracts and light humectants.

What advice would you give to young women about taking care of their skin?

The earlier you can get started on a skincare routine, the better. Both of my kids know to reach for their sunscreen every single day without me telling them to. A great skincare routine doesn’t need to be complicated. For young girls, it can be as simple as washing your face in the morning and at night, wearing sunscreen everyday, and finding a great moisturizer for your skin type!
