Shine Safe is the first nonprofit founded to raise awareness for skin cancer prevention in a digital forward way.  Our outreach campaigns collaborate with publishers, editors, founders, brands, industry experts and medical professionals to encourage people to be mindful of their sun exposure, get regular skin exams, and learn how to mitigate their risks. By creating sun safe content and promoting it with a powerful community, we can save lives. Our advocacy is built through awareness campaigns that do three key things:

01. CREATE A PLATFORM FOR VOICES. There are “influencers,” and then there are leaders. We have built a community of leading voices in dermatology, skincare, wellness, beauty, the media, and skin cancer survivors who want to share their stories, experiences, and expertise. To read what they have to say, go to VOICES.

02. PLEDGE. Everyone can help us by being mindful of the content they post and promote. There are nearly 25,000,000 (!) posts on Instagram that use hashtags for #tan, #tanning, #sunkissed, and #sunworshipper. Sign our Pledge to stand with us in promoting content that doesn’t normalize or glorify tanning.

03. ASSEMBLE A COLLECTIVE. We build a community to help further our mission through brand collaborations, content partnerships, and digital initiatives. By working with wellness-facing companies and founders, even if that isn’t their primary business, we can impactfully expand our reach to help encourage more people to be healthy.

Founder

Celine Mactaggart founded Shine Safe to help raise awareness for skin cancer prevention after having family and friends diagnosed with the disease. She is concerned about the pervasive messages, largely on social media, that glorify and normalize tanning, and hopes to help make sun safety an easy and accessible part of people’s daily routines. She works with her sister, Micheline Pergande on this effort. They have a combined background in nonprofit administration, marketing, hospital philanthropy, entrepreneurship development, and business administration.

SHINE SAFE PLEDGE

Your content has
influence, and that power
can save lives.

I promise to promote healthy sun safe practices by not encouraging, in both word and image, tanning (whether outside in the sun or in tanning salons). By producing and distributing conscious content around sun safety, I hope to inspire people to protect themselves and significantly diminish their risk of being affected by skin cancer.
